Cretaceous belemnite

Belemnitella americana is the bullet-shaped belemnite guard of the New Jersey greensands and Delaware's state fossil, found in abundance at Big Brook and in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal spoil. Guards are amber-coloured calcite and sometimes translucent. They are the most common New Jersey Cretaceous fossil and are given to children at Big Brook.
