Bison

Bison includes the Pleistocene giants B. latifrons and B. antiquus, whose skulls with horn cores spanning two metres come from Great Plains gravels, Florida rivers and Alaskan placer mines. Bison teeth and bones are cheap and abundant; a complete Bison antiquus skull is a showpiece. Distinguishing fossil bison from modern cattle bone requires care, and many 'fossil' bison are Holocene.
