Horn coral
Heliophyllum halli is the Middle Devonian solitary rugose 'horn coral' of the Hamilton Group and Silica Formation, with a conical skeleton up to 10 cm showing radiating septa in the cup. It is one of the most common New York and Ohio fossils and a cheap, robust beginner's specimen. Polished cross-sections show the septa well.
