Scaphite ammonite

Hoploscaphites is a hook-shaped scaphitid ammonite of the upper Pierre Shale and Fox Hills Formation, often found with iridescent shell and preserved in pairs of male and female (microconch and macroconch) forms. Nacreous Hoploscaphites from South Dakota are small jewels of the ammonite trade. The uncoiled body chamber is fragile and often restored.
