Caesar Creek spillway

The Caesar Creek Lake emergency spillway near Waynesville, Ohio, is the best legal public site for Cincinnatian Ordovician fossils, where the Corps of Engineers issues free permits to pick brachiopods, bryozoans, horn corals and Flexicalymene trilobites from the weathered limestone and shale. Surface pickup and the palm-size rule apply. It is the standard field trip for Ohio and Kentucky clubs.

Rules

A free collecting permit from the Caesar Creek Lake visitor centre is required each visit; collecting is limited to the spillway, surface pickup only (no tools, no digging), specimens no larger than can fit in the palm of the hand, for personal use only.
